When you were a kid, were there any early activities that might indicate you’d one day become a skydiver?
Yes, said I’d want to do that when watching a demo by UK parachute regiment display team.
What was the circumstance that led you to the DZ for the first time to make your very first skydive?
Friends doing a charity jump to raise money for a local charity. Wanted to jump and then decided to join them and raise money for a local hospice doing static line round jump.
What made you want to continue skydiving after your first jump?
Enjoyed 1st jump and wanted to freefall so went back a week later. My friends never jumped again. Here I am decades later.
What’s the best / most memorable skydive you’ve ever made?
Night world record jump. Winning national championships and competing at a few world meets.
As an instructor, what has been one of the most meaningful jumps you’ve made with a student?
A woman who was just like many who told me she had stage 4 cancer. She looked healthier than many I jump with. I had to ask what that meant. Later she hand wrote a letter saying how much the experience meant.
If you could jump with anyone in the world, who would you like to jump with and why?
Susan Nicholas. The name may not be familiar but she is the mother of my best friend Adrian Nicholas who was one of the pioneers of wingsuiting. She is suffering from cancer like above and I would love to jump with her and show her how much I enjoy jumping and how her son had such an effect on my life.
